Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that occurs when cells of the breast grow uncontrollably. Globally, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with 2.3 million women diagnosed each year¹.  

Rates are increasing in nearly every region of the world¹ with diagnoses rising above a quarter of a million in the US alone¹. About 15 to 20 percent of all breast cancers are positive for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2, or HER2, which means they make too much of this protein². Too much HER2 protein may cause cancer to grow more quickly and spread to other parts of the body³.

Today’s standard treatments for breast cancer include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy⁴.

Zymeworks is currently conducting clinical trials to test new potential targeted treatments for this disease.
